Hey there, Beautiful Soul!

My name is Shelita. I am a daughter, sister, mother, certified yoga teacher and meditation facilitator, educator, leader, change agent, writer, speaker, course facilitator, and designer. Whew! Let me catch my breath, gurl!!

After nearly 20 years in educational leadership, I know what it means to live in a constant state of “catching up”; early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, always believing I could catch up. I was on a fast-paced hamster wheel and truly believed I could outrun it.

Until an experience knocked me clear off. Forced to pause, I found, through yoga and mindfulness practices, time to breathe, to rest, to restore and reconnect with myself. Leading from constant motion and pressure wasn’t sustainable for my physical, mental, or emotional wellbeing.

That moment changed me. Grounded in the works of bell hooks, Audre Lorde, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Gholdy Muhammad, Rhonda Magee, Brené Brown, Gabor Maté, and others, my approach to life, leadership, and living shifted, bringing greater care, clarity, and sustainability.

Today, I work with leaders, educators, and private, public-sector, nonprofit, and community organizations seeking sustainable ways to lead, live, and care, without burning out. If you’re ready for a meaningful shift, I’d love to connect.

The City of Hamilton is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.

Today, the city of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners, and caretakers.
